zoom zoom zoom

I don’t have really much time to write right now. I did it! Yes, I bought the Zoom handy recorder and now I’m testing all its features. It’s not very user friendly but with a bit of brain power, you easily see through.

We also recorded our last rehearsal session. It’s wonderful to take that home and listen to it over and over again to improve the next session. We really want it to be perfect and for me, the real work starts now coz there are songs that want to be interpreted and I have to give them a feeling, to bring them to live.

so what?

We are not only looking for a new member, if ever, we are certainly looking for a band name. As we are all creative souls, we already have a huge bunch of ideas. I might say that this fact won’t ease the decision as the more choice one has the harder it gets :-)

At the moment, I’m working on a site map for a future website and I try to get a clear idea of how it should look like and what the content will be. And of course I’m always busy with working on songs, improving existing material and specially improving my own musical competencies. I’m really benefiting from my very talented band. They inspire me a lot! You will like it ;-)

any guitar players around?

We are really regularly on rehearsals now. Last Tuesday was really great. We worked hard on one song and we can say now that it’s quit finished (although a song will never ever be finished…) But we found out that we need a second guitar player. So if you wanna join us, write me a message :-)

recordings first step

We still have the unsolved problem of recording our sessions at the rehearsal room. So I took an hour of time and went to Musik Hug, which is my favourite music shop in Zurich. They always have very competent salespersons. What I basically wanted to know is what kind of portable recorders there are on the market at the moment. I know about the Edirol recorder – my singing teacher owns one. It has a really very good internal microphone but you can only do one track recording with that and I’d prefer to have at least two tracks.

Therefore, the Zoom handy recorder would be nice. It can record four tracks and it has a direct mic input.

There are even bigger ones with 16 tracks and even other solutions which need a computer, what makes it less handy but more exact to record even the drums.

It’s as usual with music equipment: there is way too much and way too many possibilities to take spontaneous decisions. And money is, of course, a factor as well. So I will sleep over it a few times and I will discuss it with my mates and hopefully find a quick and good solution.

work, work, work… but I won’t complain

There’s a lot going on these days. I met my guys again on Thursday for another rehearsal session and it was really grooving. I came home quite late and I couldn’t turn off that easily as I was thinking about all the songs and where it’s gonna lead us.

So I was really tired when I got up yesterday at five in the morning. But I had to, as I needed to prepare for another photoshooting. I have planned that long ago, with a good friend of mine I met through my singing teacher. She really loves taking pictures and I really love posing, so we agreed that we will be a good team.

Surprisingly, my make-up turned out to be fine at the first try! This is really unusual – normally, it takes me at least two times…

So we drove up to the mountains where she knew a good location for the shooting. We passed a chapel and we spontaneously decided to take a few pictures there as well. I felt like a sinner and an angel at the same time ;-)

We were pretty fast and even finished our work before the rain came again. Now we have to take a choice of all the pictures we shot and then I have to start with the website and in parallel I need to work on my songs and write new ones and rehearse with the guys, and, and, and… there’s work all around me, but I won’t complain, as this is all I ever wanted and so much fun!

mission completed!

This is truely the best news ever on this blog: it’s done, it’s perfect, I have a band! Finally, after all this time with no luck, I got touched by some mighty power showing me the right persons and bringing them to me.

That’s to say I’m back from our first rehearsal session. After meeting Jerry, the guitar player, last week for a chat, we decided to jam together, he, Kalu and I. And, o Holy God, he sent me a message on the weekend saying that he’s in contact with another guy who plays the guitar and the bass as well! So, without knowing him, Alex, at all, we met tonight to find out whether we fit together or not. And damn we do!

It was amazing, just jamming, working a little bit on one of my songs, working on one of Jerry’s songs and getting along very well!

So it feels like if it’s all done but in fact, it’s just about to start! A lot of work ahead but a lot of fun too and I’m sure we will end up creating something special! I love it!

More to come soon…

The blues’ pouring out of me

WTF! Live seems to hate me these days.  As I woke up this morning, I was highly motivated to finish some songs and do some hard work at the piano. As I sat there and pushed some chords, there was absolutely no sound.  No sound! What the hell! First thing I was thinking that the speakers were broken so I ran into the city to buy an adapter to my headphones so I could test them with the piano.  But still, no sound… :-( So I was really depressed. Damn, I want to play that thing, how can I work on my songs when I don’t have a piano? So I unpacked the self-made woman within me and unscrewed the planking to take a look at the heart of my piano. Twenty screws! What a work. Nothing to see. So twenty screws back in. And, all of a sudden, there was music again! Ha! It helps not to give up at the first problem… Have to go working now :-)

everything changes…

I changed my mind. After a discussion with my drummer, I decided to cancel the jam session with the other guitar player and the bass guitar player. We were just too scared that they will go back to their old band after the drummer returns from his oversea trip.

And the first guitar player found another band. So we start the search from the beginning again. That’s fine… I’m sure, we will find a good fit soon.

Casting

I’m in a jury now. :-) Somehow. Coz what we, Kalu and I, do at the moment is like a casting. I contacted two guitar players, as already mentioned, and we used yesterdays rehearsal to cast one that has already answered my mail. We played three full hours! It was so great. Kalu took over control and just like a conductor, he lead us to the point that my song really rocked out. Great! He was just ingenious. And I really, really liked the guitar player. He was really into it, concentrating, listening, trying new things – it was cool to rock with him. Amazing to see how we could create one song within two hours, just like that! I would really love to work with him, we are a great team.

But still, its just fair if I call the other guitar player, who also replied my mail. Casting number two :-) The good thing about him is that he would maybe have a bass guitar player as well.

Of course, I’m going to discuss the whole thing with Kalu as well – I’m very thankfull for all his inputs, he’s great and he has this sort of overview and enough experience to judge whether right or wrong. Who knows, maybe I kill my plan of having just one single guitar player and I’ll just have two :-)

good news!

I just clicked around on music.ch once again in search of a guitar player and I found two interesting ads, so I contacted both. And, what a luck, one already replied and I just invited him to Monday’s rehearsal. He already plays in a cover band and had some concerts yet. I already chatted with him and he seems quite a good fit. Very looking forward to hearing him play…

Further, I just talked to a friend who creates homepages as I’d like to be prepared for when we have some recordings. Then, I’m going to open up a homepage and a myspace account. But first, I need to fix the musical thing.
